Walnuts have a great connection with the brain. This dried fruit is really beneficial for the good health of the brain. They are rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are required for the proper functioning of the brain. Maximum part of our brain is made up of high quality fats like omega 3 fatty acids; a low consumption of these fats can give rise to the problems like depression and decreased cognitive function.

Omega 3 fatty acids increase the learning ability, problem solving skills, memory, communication in between the cells and focus. Often diets rich in bad fats can impair the functioning of brain so addition of these essential fatty acids that is omega 3 fatty acids can lead to the better functioning of brain. They also improve the blood circulation so the more oxygen will reach the brain and which can further lead to healthy functioning of the brain.

Walnuts are rich in vitamin E which is again a very important nutrient for the brain health. Vitamin E protects the myelin sheaths in the brain; these sheaths surround neurons in the brain and help to prevent degeneration during normal aging process.

Walnuts are rich in B complex vitamins like thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and pyridoxine. These vitamins are also required for the good health of brain. Brain use vitamin B1 that is thiamine to convert glucose into fuel. If this vitamin will be lacking then we can feel fatigue, irritability, anxiety or depression. Deficiency of niacin can also lead to the anxiety or irritation. Deficiency of pyridoxine can lead to fluctuations in the hormones like serotonin, melatonin and dopamine which are required for the stable mood and mental clarity.

Along with brain walnuts are also beneficial for the prevention of many diseases like cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers, anaemia and also help in the weight loss. They can be taken as a snack or can also be very healthy pre workout foods. Walnuts can be a great food for snacking because they are rich in nutrients and dietary fiber. So rather than taking chips and French fries one can have walnuts which give comparatively more health benefits.

Walnuts are also rich in iron which is again a very important element for the healthy functioning of brain. Iron is required for the proper transportation of the nutrients to each and every cell of the body. So a deficiency of iron can lead to the improper supply of nutrients to the brain and thus can also give rise to many brain related problems.

Walnuts are good for the brain health but one should take them in adequate amounts as these are high in fats also and can lead to the weight gain. Taking one to two walnuts per day are healthy for an adults and it can prevent the occurrence of many lifestyle diseases.
