Vegetables to Increase Hemoglobin

Anaemia is one of the very common disorders when the blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells or the hemoglobin. This is a reversible condition if treated at early stages. The symptoms of the anaemia include extreme fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, pale skin, dizziness and depression. Early diagnosis is difficult in case of anaemia because the symptoms will be mild. If the Haemoglobin will be low then the supply of oxygen to the whole body will also be lower and as a result the person will feel more fatigued and stressed out. Following are some of the useful herbs and vegetables which are commonly available in the market and can help to treat the problem:



Sesame seeds: Sesame seeds are the one of the healthiest seeds. They are rich in essential oils and iron. You can just chew them or can make a powder of them and sprinkle it on different dishes. Black sesame seeds contain more iron content so one can use them if suffering from anaemia.


Pumpkin seeds: Pumpkin seeds are also another good source of iron. They can be roasted and can be taken as snack. A handful of these seeds provide almost all the daily dietary requirements of iron. You can also mix them with other dishes; a crunchy taste of these can really make the dish different.


Dried Figs: Figs are also a good source of iron but dried figs contain more iron. So munch on them along with some other nuts. But don’t consume them too much as they are high in sugars also.


Jaggery: jaggery is also a good source of iron. You can add them for some sweet dishes or it can also be taken after the food. This will also avoid the cravings for sweets. But don’t consume it too much as this is high in sugar too. So add it with the above foods and say bye bye to iron deficiency.


Fenugreek: The leaves and seeds of fenugreek are rich in iron. They help to prevent anaemia, a condition where a low level of hemoglobin occurs.


Turmeric: Turmeric being rich in iron is valuable in anaemia. A teaspoon of raw turmeric juice, mixed with honey, is taken every day in the treatment of this condition.


Pulses: Pulses are also a great source of iron. Combine them with adequate intake of vitamin C as vitamin C is required for the absorption of iron. You can add them in the salads, soups or can also add them in noodles. In India pulses are boiled and then sautéed with tomato and onion and it makes a delicious curry. You can add your favorite spices into it. Lentils, black grams, soya bean are some of the good iron rich pulses.


Green leafy vegetables: Green leafy vegetables are also a good source of iron. So take them regularly. You can add them in salads, soups or can just stir fry them. With the iron they are also rich in vitamin C which is required for the absorption of iron.


Carrots: Carrots are also the rich sources of iron. They can be taken as a vegetable or as a juice. They are also high in other important nutrients which are good for health.


Beetroot: Beetroot is one of the very effective vegetable for the treatment of low hemoglobin levels. It regenerates and reactivates the red blood cells. It can be taken as the salad or the juice.


Tomato: Tomato is rich in iron and they are also rich in vitamin C. Vitamin C is an important nutrient which is required for the absorption of iron. Consume tomato soup, salad or as a veggie to avoid the problem of iron deficiency.
