A crash diet is a type of diet that consists of low level of carbohydrates and fat. This diet is especially for those who are constantly struggling with their weight and are not getting any permanent solution for weight loss. People who need to reduce 1-2 pounds urgently for an occasion generally follow this diet. However, dietitians do not recommend this diet because it is nutritionally inadequate and unbalanced.
Some of the Main Features of this Diet are:
• It is meant to achieve rapid weight loss and may differ from outright starvation only slightly.
• It is not meant to last for long periods of time, and should only be followed for a few weeks because it is not balanced.
• This form of diet is not successful in achieving long term weight loss because it slows down the body's metabolic rate.
Any diet should not be followed for an extended periods of time, and should be changed, preferably after the first two weeks. A crash diet mainly consists of a routine of foods to be taken in for a week.
• During the first day of the crash diet, you will be allowed to eat all the fruits except for bananas because it is high in carbohydrate and caffeinated beverages or sodas. Beverages like water, tea, cranberry juice, coconut water are usually included in the diet.
• On the second day you can eat vegetables in any form. Eat green vegetables and try to avoid dried beans, peas and corn. Fats, sauces, or butter should not be included. You may have vegetable soups like cabbage which is in low calories.
• Your third day will include all the fruits and vegetables but, baked potato is restricted.
• On the fourth day of your crash diet you can eat bananas along with skimmed milk along with all the cabbage soup.
• On the fifth day of your crash diet you are allowed to eat 10 to 20 ounces of beef (skinless chicken, or broiled fish) along with 10 glasses of water, six fresh tomatoes.
• During your sixth day of dieting, eat all the beef, vegetable and cabbage soups. Baked potato is not allowed but you can have lots of leafy green vegetables.
• Your seventh day of dieting will include unsweetened fruit juice, brown rice, and vegetables with one bowl of cabbage soup.
The crash diet is not recommended as a long term solution for weight loss because it does not contain enough complex carbohydrates and is found to be effective only for a few days. But for short term fix, it can be quite useful. |
