Benefits of Honey

Honey is the sweet, thick, sugary solution made by bees. This golden liquid is the product of honey bees and it is delicious in taste. It is known as Madhu in ayurveda and it is one of the most important medicines used in the ayurveda. It is used for both external and internal applications and to treat many diseases. Honey consists of fructose, glucose, water, oil and enzymes produced by the bees.


Honey comes in various types of colors and flavors. The color and flavor of the honey depends on, how old the honey is. Honey is very beneficial for the health too, it boost the immunity of the person and prevent the occurrence of many diseases. It is a great source of antioxidants and prevents the oxidative damage in the body. Honey can also be helpful in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders and it improves the digestive system of the body.


Due to antibacterial properties honey is a very useful treatment for the sore throats. It not only sooth the throat but also kill certain bacteria which can cause infection. It is also beneficial during the cough and cold. It is used in the making of cough syrups because of its smooth and thick texture.


Honey also has antiseptic properties and helps to heal external wounds. Honey has been used as a natural cure in the first aid treatment for the wounds, burns and cuts. Honey absorbs moisture from the air and promotes healing. It is also used for the treatment of athlete foot, arthritis and yeast infection. Due to its anti inflammatory problems it helps to reduce the swelling and pain.


Honey also increases the calcium absorption. Calcium is an important mineral and required for the healthy bones and teeth. It is also helpful in the treatment of anaemia. It is a natural laxative and prevents the problem of constipation.


Taking half tsp of honey in Luke warm water every morning can kick start your day and it can also flush out the toxins from the body. Accumulation of toxins in the body can give rise to many deadly diseases. Although honey is high in calories but when consumed with Luke warm water on empty stomach it help in the digestion of stored fats in the body and thus help in the process of weight loss.


Honey is a very beneficial product for the skin too. It gives you a smooth and radiant skin. Due to high in antioxidant and anti microbial properties it helps to protect the skin from the damage of sun rays and also rejuvenate the skin. Honey absorbs impurities from the pores of the skin and thus makes it an ideal cleansing agent. Honey is beneficial for almost all the skin types. It can prevent the occurrence of wrinkles and black spots from the skin. For this take 1 tbsp of honey and add a pinch of turmeric in it. Apply this paste on the face and leave for 10-15 minutes, after that wash the face with the cold water. You will get a sparkling and glowing skin.
